Mozilla announced it would do the same in January, starting with Firefox 51, which displayed a grey lock icon with a red strike-through in the address bar if a page collects passwords but doesn’t use HTTPS. Google did this for pages with logins and banking sites in Chrome 56. With Firefox 52, Mozilla has also implemented its plan to raise warning signals when users visit some HTTP pages. On the Flash side, Firefox began blocking non-essential Flash content last year to improve security, as well as browser and device performance. Oracle for its part has warned developers over the past two years to move to plugin-free technologies and last January announced it would deprecate the Java plugin in Java Developer Kit (JDK) 9, which is due out belatedly this year. Silverlight, Java, Acrobat and the like are no longer supported,” Mozilla says in the release notes for Firefox 52.įirefox ESR continues to support Silverlight and Java and will do so until early 2018 to help users who need the plugins. “ Removed support for Netscape Plugin API (NPAPI) plugins other than Flash. It later pushed that back by three months to Firefox 52, but has now made good on the promise, meaning that Java applets can no longer launch from the browser. Mozilla warned website operators in late 2015 that it would drop NPAPI support for all plugins except Flash by the end of 2016, when it would replace plugins with Web APIs. Mozilla’s 64-bit Firefox for Windows dropped support for NPAPI plugins in 2015, in line with Google dropping NPAPI support in Chrome, but until now the 32-bit version of Firefox has supported apps that hooked into the browser via NPAPI. Historically, flaws in these plugins and difficulties patching them have made an easy entry point for hackers. Question Windows crashing and restarting (sometimes over and over) and keyboard no longer works, apps regularly become unresponsive. But the most notable change is reduced leeway for web applications that rely on NPAPI or the Netscape Plugin API, such as Adobe’s Flash and Acrobat, Microsoft’s Silverlight, Oracle’s Java plugins. Question PC won’t wake up using mouse and keyboard Question Reset password using a UK keyboard but PC wants a US keyboard I'm about to send the thing back, but perhaps one of you clever people is able to solve this particularly odd issue for me. And to put the cherry on it as well, the keyboard no longer even works in the BIOS of the system (which I could only get to work via Windows 10's special boot feature). To top it off, it appears the recovery image is missing from the system after I tried reverting the most recent update (which did nothing at all), so recovering isn't an option either. Later on I learned that the mini-USB connector didn't work anymore either, but still received power from the charger. It still receives power, as tested via the indicator light and the USB port (which gives power but no actual connection). I restarted it, and the touchscreen worked, but the keyboard gave no response. It worked fine for a bit, when suddenly the touchscreen stopped working along with the keyboard. It required Silverlight, so I installed the appropriate software. Though I'm not sure if that's the issue, the problem took place after I went to, which is a premium streaming site for Ziggo members (a dutch ISP). Until I tried installing both Firefox and Silverlight. I recently purchased a Point of View TAB-P1005W-232 (Windows 10 tablet) that worked a treat.
